“Half a Tank of Empty” drops us into Bubba Bodine already at full speed, with Vera adding the emotional shadow beside him. It feels like the tape caught the band mid-song, no intro, no setup, just a country-rock confession running on bad choices, highway heat, and a pull too strong to fight.

Bubba knows the warnings. He knows the road, the wreck, and what it may cost. But that is the point: knowing better does not stop him. Vera’s harmonies deepen the ache, turning the hook into something both reckless and inevitable.

The band should sound already on fire. The verses drive, the pre-choruses lean back, and the choruses explode. The bridge strips everything down to piano and exposed voices before the final chorus hits wide open.

The ending needs to cut hard on the last word, no fade, no outro. Just silence after impact.

Lyrics

...pulled out of her driveway at a quarter past wrong
Radio playing something I can't hear for long
Every traffic light hit green like the universe lied
Said go on fool nothing to lose on the other side

Red flags don't mean stop when you're already gone
Common sense left me somewhere around dusk till dawn
I know this road I know this feeling I know what comes next
But knowing never stopped a man from driving into the wreck

And here I am again
Standing at the edge of everything
One foot on the ground
One foot in the wind

Half a tank of empty
And a heart full of her
Everything that made sense
Is a beautiful blur
I should've turned around
At the last exit back
But half a tank of empty
And a heart full of her
Had me driving like the road
Was never gonna end
Half a tank of empty
And a heart full of her
And I'd fill up just to do it
All over again

She didn't promise nothing she didn't have to say a word
Just stood there in that porch light like a prayer I never heard
I've been around this world enough to know what this is
But knowing what this is don't mean you walk away from this

I got miles behind me I got scars to prove I've tried
To be the sensible man who don't get taken for a ride
But sensible don't hold you when the night gets cold and long
And sensible don't sound like her laughing to that song

And here I am again
Standing at the edge of everything
Looking down at all that beautiful
Dangerous light

Half a tank of empty
And a heart full of her
Everything that made sense
Is a beautiful blur
I should've turned around
At the last exit back
But half a tank of empty
And a heart full of her
Had me driving like the road
Was never gonna end
Half a tank of empty
And a heart full of her
And I'd fill up just to do it
All over again

I have been to the edge before
Looked down at what waits there
Lost things I can't get back
Loved people who weren't there

But this ain't that kind of empty
This ain't that kind of dark
This is the best kind of lost
When somebody else holds the map
To your heart

Half a tank of empty
And a heart full of her
Everything that made sense
Is a beautiful blur
I should've turned around
At the last exit back
But half a tank of empty
And a heart full of her
Had me driving like the road
Was never gonna end
Half a tank of empty
And a heart full of her
Half a tank of empty
And a heart full of her
Lord I'd run this thing dry
Down to the fumes and the fire
Half a tank of empty
And a heart full of her
And I would do it again
I would do it again
I would do it
Again
